Injuries to your MCL (medial collateral ligament) are very common. These tears occur when trauma occurs to your knee that forces it inward. This results in pain on the medial side of your knee.

If your MCL is completely torn, it will likely need surgery to repair it back to the tibia or femur. This procedure is done to stabilize the knee. If your MCL isn’t repaired correctly, your knee could continue to become unstable, potentially causing future arthritis and pain.
